Immunization Information

Ottawa Public Health will be sending out letters to specific families regarding your child’s immunization record, as additional information is required to update certain records.  This will NOT go to all students, only students whose records require updating.

The letter will provide the following information:

  • The vaccines required to ensure your child’s immunization records are up to date;
  • How to update your child’s record; and
  • A deadline to provide the information.

Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), students who attend a school in Ontario are required to be vaccinated against nine diseases or have a valid exemption.

Every year, Ottawa Public Health reviews the immunization records of all students who attend an elementary and high school in Ottawa to make sure the information is up to date. Failure to provide this information may result in a school suspension. Updates on immunizations are crucial to protect the health of students during an infectious disease outbreak, such as measles.

Your health care provider does not provide the information to Ottawa Public Health. It is the parents’ responsibility to report to Ottawa Public Health all additional immunizations that are given on an ongoing basis.

If you have any questions regarding you can visit our website www.parentinginottawa.ca/immunization or contact Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744.
